COMMENTS FROM OUR SPECIALIZED BUILDING ENTRY STUDENTS

Everyone loved the class. On Friday, not even 24 hours after the course, two detectives were on a probation search and came upon a Sentry fire safe. They had it picked and open in less than a minute. It contained indicia that tied a suspect into a crime they were investigating. Being able to pick the safe open saved us having to pry it open or seizing it to be opened later.

Just wanted to inform you that I was able to pick two locks in order to gain entry to the residence of a deceased subject to look for next-of-kin information and allow animal control to take custody of several pets. I think this was one of the most practical classes I have attended.

We have picked a lot of locks since completing your course. I’m sure the class has paid for itself already. We have also gotten a reputation for being able to pick locks; so much so that the PD’s and DA’s office have called requesting our assistance on entries.

♦ The SWAT guys have been using their lock picking skills to defeat a number of locks including a padlock during surveillance and a duffle bag lock during a probation search. They also picked a garage door lock during a barricaded subject call-out. The suspect fled into a residence, carrying a handgun, following a vehicle pursuit. After a perimeter was secured we needed to run a throw phone line from the command post to the suspect. By picking the lock on the garage door of the condo unit across from the suspect we were able to run our line directly through the garage instead of going around the entire complex. It made it quicker, safer, and we may not have had enough line to go around.

♦ I had the opportunity to pick a lock this morning and saved an elderly lady the cost of fixing her door. The fire department wanted the PD to get them in to help her up off the floor. Good training!

We received a call today regarding a welfare check on an 84 year old female who was not responding to her “Lifeline Alarm” check. Lifeline indicated that the female is wheelchair bound and they had written authorization to force entry if necessary. All doors and windows were secured. I was able to pick the lock and gain entry to the residence in just over a minute. No one was at home. This was cool!! It made me happy because I didn’t have to write any paper for a damaged door. I’m sure the home owner will be real happy that we did not damage her residence.

The instructors were extremely knowledgeable.

This course will be very useful in the field; more than any other course I have attended.

♦ I didn’t know what to expect from this course. Now that I have taken it I would highly recommend it to all law enforcement officers.

♦ I greatly enjoyed your class and have used the skills you taught on several occasions. My new skills have given our team more options in making entries and we have conducted searches of facilities that we did not previously have access to. I feel a little like a magician when I open doors or lock boxes. It also surprises the hell out of the parolees when you’re in their room or house before they realize it.

We had a call of a car crashed into an apartment building with a resultant gas leak. The fire department wanted the building inspector to evaluate two apartments for structural damage. No on-scene manager or property owner. NO KEYS! I got my tools out and was able to open the doors on both apartments. Thank you for showing me how to do this.

During my law enforcement career I have attended 25-35 “POST” courses. This was quite possibly the most beneficial.

We recently assisted in a multi-agency case where several search warrants were being served simultaneously. On arrival at our location it appeared that nobody was home and I began to pick the front door. I was at it for about 45 seconds to a minute when the guy behind me said, “That’s enough, move.” Just as he said that the lock picked open and we got in without damage to the door. Thanks for the excellent hands-on instruction.

♦ Just thought I’d let you know that the day after the class I had the opportunity to use my new skills to enter a residence. I successfully picked both the knob and dead bolt on a medical aid call.

♦ I had a search warrant last week and was successful in picking three locks – two filing cabinets and a desk. It was cool when I had three people breathing down my neck saying, “You can’t do it,” and in about three seconds I did.

♦ The Covert Entry Course was outstanding. I’ve attended a large number of training seminars during my 25 years with the Massachusetts State Police working in special operations, firearms training, undercover narcotics, and the bomb squad. Your program is certainly one of the best, most useful ones that I’ve attended.

We hit a residence occupied by a subject who had knifed his mother. I recon’d the door from across the street. We used a shield at the door while I worked on the locks. I had the knob unlocked in about 15 to 20 seconds. The deadbolt wasn’t locked. I just pushed the door open, rolled out of the way, and the entry team went past. Very smooth entry with no damage. The “brass” were very happy about that.

♦ Last Friday my DEA team served a search warrant on a storage shed belonging to major drug dealer. The lock was a new Master with a full metal shank collar making it almost impossible to cut. I was able to pick it open in just a couple of minutes. We recovered 11 hand guns (one stolen), an assault rifle, and a sawed-off shotgun. The best part was the storage shed was rented to a parolee. My team was very impressed.

This was the most challenging and productive class I’ve attended.

♦ Fantastic course! Very practical and relevant to law enforcement and the real world. A “must” for all officers.

Our major crimes detective asked that I help with a search warrant service at a rape suspect’s residence. The house had bars on the windows and security doors on all the entrances. The deadbolt on the security door at the front was mounted upside down. With my sergeant, 4 detectives, an FTO and her trainee watching it took less than 2 minutes to pick the lock and make entry.

Excellent course. Knowledgeable instructors with what is seriously lacking in most law enforcement instructors – experience! One of the best courses I’ve attended in my 26 years of law enforcement.

This course is worth much more than you’re charging. Both instructors were highly motivated and helpful from beginning to end. I personally am very grateful for all of the extra effort put forth to ensure I made it to his course, from recommending hotels to meeting at the hotel and allowing me to ride to the training site with you. Having attended training worldwide, this is the best value for knowledge I have received.

We have been able to use our new skills three times in the first week of operation. We’ve used our core puller twice to apprehend fugitives hiding in apartments. Just in this short time the course has paid for itself and we know it will continue to be a valuable tool.

♦ Today I made entry into a Sentry strong box assisting a robbery detective. It took about 2 seconds. Inside was the robbery victim’s property.

Your class paid off for me. We had a burglary in progress and I was able to pick two deadbolts to get the K9 and search team into the home. Two suspects were arrested.

♦ SWAT was called to assist with a road rage/homicide suspect. I was able to defeat a lock to gain access to the building. The suspect gave up immediately after the door opened.

♦ I used the skills learned in your course while assisting another agency with a fugitive that had purchased several hand guns. He was under observation in the basement and I opened the front door surprising the family and the fugitive. That alone made the course more than pay for itself.

♦ I was able to pick both the knob and deadbolt on a vacant apartment to establish surveillance on a subject wanted for several felonies. It took about 15 seconds to open both locks. When the suspect arrived we stepped out of the apartment, surprised him, and completed the arrest without incident.

♦  I really enjoyed your class.  By the way I picked my first lock today on a robbery suspect.  Knocked at the door, no answer.  There was a security door on the front.  The knob was locked so I picked that.  The dead bolt wasn’t locked nor were either of the locks on the front door.  We entered the apartment and guess who was hiding in a closet…the bad guy.  Thanks to all of you for the training.
